Artifact Donations
If you are interested in donating an item to the Coffey County Museum, please reach out to the museum for further information. Donations should be made in person during staff hours, which are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prior to the acceptance of any donation, necessary paperwork must be completed and signed. If you are unable to visit during these hours, please contact the museum to make alternative arrangements. Unfortunately, the museum cannot accept items left at the door, and loans are not permitted.
All donated items are regarded as outright and unconditional gifts, and their use will be determined by the museum. Once an item is donated, ownership is transferred to the museum and it legally becomes the property of the museum. Due to the extensive collection of artifacts that are rotated in exhibits, the museum cannot guarantee when or for how long the donated items will be displayed.
Artifacts should have a connection to Coffey County; they can be made in, owned in, utilized in, or the donor must be from Coffey County. Due to space limitations, the condition of the item, and the possibility of duplicates already being in the archives, not all donations can be accepted. If an item is not accepted, we kindly ask that you take it back with you, as the museum is unable to dispose of it on your behalf. Generally, the museum will not accept items such as pianos, organs, stoves, sewing machines, typewriters, irons, or most books. However, photographs are typically accepted if they meet the aforementioned criteria.
Genealogical Donations
We welcome the submission of family histories. Within the Genealogy Library, we have a designated section for donated genealogical materials. However, due to space constraints, we are unable to accept large totes of genealogy information. We recommend organizing your materials and placing them in a few binders for easier handling before donating. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding organization of the material, please feel free to contact the museum.
